RESERVED- Ghosts- solid sterling, shibuichi, australian opal necklace
I know, this time I went a bit overboard in the creative process adding some pieces that could be a bit more costly but I realize things like that after finished when like now, it is time to measure and price them... for that I must apologize since the idea behind this store is to add the same quality of art galleries but in an affordable price. (Pieces of this kind or the fossils, etc. I offer can be found for at even $3000 not just in Galleries but also from independent jewelers like me, you can find it all over the net)
Now, to this necklace.
The "ghost" focal -I call them ghosts... the good ones- in Shibuichi and solid sterling holds an Australian opal representing the heart as in the piece "Heretic". Aside, other three opals add a splash of blues and some fire here and there among the Thick hand crafted sterling wire. The chain, frame, focal and everything but the Opals has been made from scratch, yes, even the wire, a long but important process to have a rustic bold look that round normal wire would not do.
How is the process? Get silver, get ingot molds, melt silver, pour on ingot molds, when you have a ingot then is when the dance really starts. It requires a LOT of exercise since the ingot has to be reduced to wire. In the ancient times some used just a hammer and fire -and take forever and ever and more ever- but I got a wire rolling mill so, ingot goes into the rolling mill, fire, rolling mill, fire, rolling mill... HOURS until the ingot becomes a long thin wire. (Hum, rolling mills are like a pasta machine, but instead of flat have indentations on the rolling area where the ingot is set and literally stretched due to brute force rolling it in between the rolling things. Mine is not electric, I prefer by far hand tools since I enjoy recreating ancient jewelry techniques like tufa casting, etc. etc. I had been always fascinated by the ingenuity our ancestors had, how they drilled beads, how they molt glass, their furnaces, "primitive technology".
Oh, as I was saying... Sterling hand crafted wire, as everything else on this piece.
Bold, unique, the "ghosts" will Not be repeated, are the only ones with that particular face -anyway might have some in some moment, maybe, perhaps, who knows... with a similar body shape. I think I made just 3 or 4 of them.
Why Shibuichi? Several reasons. 1- I got hooked on the idea of a traditional Japanese work that uses it for swords. 2- love experimentation. 3- Shibuichi can add a soft different color to the piece yet being oxidized to black as silver including perspiration oxidation for salty air weather. 4- it is Fun!!! :)
It measures around the neck 19 inches approx.
